Breeding
The main breeding objective of the Dutch livestock farmer is a highly productive dairy cow. Preferably that produces milk efficiently and without any problems for a long time.
There are also cows specially bred for meat production, the so-called meat-type breeds such as Limousin, Blonde d’Aquitaine and Belgian Blue.
Breeding is actually nothing more than the selection of bulls and cows with the most desirable characteristics, then mating them. In this way breeders attempt to breed a new generation that both incorporate the desired characteristics and are better than the last generation.
In so doing, of course, they keep firmly in their sights the objective: milk production or meat production.
Within VION Food Group the policy is not to use genetically modified animals.
In keeping the animals state-of-the-art technology is used to guarantee the health of man and beast and to enhance the welfare of the animals as far as possible. To safeguard the integrity of the animals, VION does not wish to use animals and products from animals in which genetic modifications have been made artificially.
