Meat processing
VION Tilburg is a major supplier of fresh beef for supermarket organisations, butchers and wholesalers in the Netherlands and abroad. This meat is supplied through VION Retail Netherlands, that cuts meat to size for our different clients.
The beef market is far more varied than the more uniform pork market. There are many different types of beef cattle, and the animals also differ widely from one another. The slaughter and sale of cows and bulls takes place in Tilburg. They mainly come from the Netherlands. VION Tilburg also supplies Belgian and Irish beef. We buy meat based on the quality preferences of our customers.
Customized beef packaging
VION Tilburg can supply beef at any price-quality ratio. The market requests different qualities of beef, differing in tenderness, succulence and taste.
Differences in beef quality come about through differences in age, race, sex, feed and maturity. Quality ranges from beef of excellent basic quality to luxury meat of the finest quality.
The following lists a number of different beef quality levels.
Dutch cow
Dutch cows are used for dairy production their whole lives. But after that, they are still very good sources of beef. VION Tilburg has specialised in the slaughter of Dutch cows. These are sold to clients throughout Europe.
VION closely monitors the full meat chain, enabling us to safeguard product freshness. Dutch cows offer meat that is of good basic quality. Most of it is particularly suitable as braising and frying meat such as stewing steak, ribs and lean beefsteak. In addition, Dutch cows provide excellent raw material for hamburger steak and minced beef.
Dutch bull
The breeding of bulls for meat production is widespread in the Netherlands. The right selection of young animals and proper housing and feed ensure a high-quality product.
Belgian Blue
The Belgian Blue cattle breed is bred especially for meat production. This is cattle that provide gorgeous beef. Belgian Blues enjoy an exuberant lifestyle, and have a fine tradition of superior beef to uphold. Belgian Blue beef is lean, tender and succulent.
Irish Beef Cattle
Irish beef mainly comes from cows and oxen. Meat from Irish cattle beef has a raised intramuscular fat content. You can tell by the small fatty traces throughout the meat. These melt during cooking, and make the meat particularly tasty and tender.
Organic
Bio+ is organic beef. Beef cattle are kept according to the guidelines for organic production (www.skal.nl).
Processing for retail
VION Retail Netherlands produces ready-to-eat beef products for supermarkets at its retail sites in Groenlo en Schijndel. VION Tilburg provides the beef for that.
